Did ya feel that?

I woke up this morning shaking.  Was it nerves?  Was I having some sort of medical problem?  Nope!  Once I heard the windows rattling too, I knew it was an earthquake. Whoa!  I was almost expecting to have a frightened child or two flying into the bedroom “Kosmo Kramer-style”, but none of them felt a thing.  I checked the clock, which read 5:41.

Since it was 5:41,  I was too lazy to get up, walk across the room, and turn on the TV to make sure, so I went back to sleep.  That was, however,  the first thing I did when the alarm started ringing.  Sure enough, a 5.4 centered in Illinois.  Luckily no one was hurt, though places as close as Louisville, KY had some damage.  I’m interested to see if there are any stronger aftershocks today.

The last earthquake I remember was several (ahem…yes, several.) years ago when I was in elementary school.  I remember it vividly because we were watching a movie with our desks in a semi-circle around the room, with another class on the floor in front of the desks.  I thought the boy on the floor in front of me was shaking my desk, so I kicked him .  Turns out it was an earthquake.  (Whoops!  Sorry Mike!)

At least I didn’t kick my husband this time around.  🙂

Friday Fun Factoid:  It is estimated that there are 500,000 detectable earthquakes in the world each year. 100,000 of those can be felt, and 100 of them cause damage.

Have a great (shake-free) day!
